First Day in Office

Newly elected Minister of District Administration, Works and Gender Affairs, the Hon. Juliana O'Connor-Connolly, JP, met with her Ministry staff on Tuesday (2 June) before departing for her first Cabinet meeting.
Anxious to roll up her sleeves and get started, Mrs O'Connor-Connolly told the group that she is already brainstorming several ministry projects, with sources of funding being a top priority.
However, she also reassured her staff that she will be depending on their support and expertise to get things done. Meetings have already been arranged with the 16+ directors that fall within the Ministry's responsibility.
The Minister was warmly received by Chief Officer Kearney Gomez, MBE, JP, and other Ministry staff members.
The Ministry of District Administration, Works and Gender Affairs (DAWGA) has responsibility for District Administration; Agriculture; Lands and Survey; Mosquito Research and Control; NRA; Petroleum Inspectorate; Public Works; Postal Services; Vehicle and Drivers' Licensing; Vehicle and Equipment Services; Environmental Health; Recreation, Parks and Cemeteries; Telecommunications; Gender Affairs; the National Weather Service; Sister Islands Sports; and Sister Islands Affordable Housing.
